With a move to, Creston, she briefly prepared salads and desserts in the cafeteria at Southwestern Community College. Her final employment began in 1984 at age 65 working part-time at Job Service of Iowa in Creston.

Due to poor health she retired in 1993 and remained active in the Methodist Church and with the Union County Senior Citizens.
