"Memories of Grandpa"
I remember Grandpa at holidays a lot.
His presence with me will never
Nothing special at all, just a drive to the lake,
or riding on horseback was all it would take.
He would smile at me and look so proud,
As the centennial parade would roll past the crowd.
Thinking back on
how it used to be
[line clipped off] me.
Working at the station, he could be seen,
Pumping the gas and
making windshields clean.
Sweep it every morning, the drive and the shop.
Lunch was at eleven, that's when he'd stop.
Saturday morning, let's head to Mount Ayr.
The bank would soon open and we would be there.
When Sunday came he'd
sit in the pew,
Till communion was served, that was his cue.
Grandpa never knew a stanger, they say.
While he's lying peacefully, in his casket today.
His final trip wasn't painful, it seemed.
He told us all
"It ws just like a Dream."
-- Love, Mike.
