OBITUARY ~ HAZEL FUGATE, MOUNT AYR
MOUNT AYR - Hazel FUGATE, 89, of Mount Ayr, died Saturday morning at the Mount Ayr Health Care Center.
Her funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home. The Rev. Merlin WILKINS will officiate
with burial in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton.
Mrs. FUGATE was born March 25, 1895, in Ellston, Iowa to
James and Eva Ann (nee STAATS) MAGGARD. She married C. A. [Claudie Albia] FUGATE. He died July 24, 1962. She lived in the
Diagonal area before moving to Mount Ayr 23 years ago. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include four daughters,
Viola BECK of Sterling, Nebr., Irma MONDRARY of Indianapolis, Ind. and LaVerne NORTHEY of Knoxville, Ill.; one
son, Jack LAIRD of Texas; 16 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bertha (Mrs. Ted) HIGHTSHOE
of Creston; and two brothers, Acel of Des Moines and Robert MAGGARD of Mount Ayr.
A memorial has been
established to the Diabetes Association.

The life of Hazel FUGATE passed from its temporal body to her eternal home Saturday morning, February 2, 1985 at the

She loved her children and grandchildren. She liked to sew, crochet and keep her hands busy making quilts and other
crafts. Also she was a good cook and enjoyed having her family and others come to her home for meals.

sister, Bertha HIGHTSHOE, Creston, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren and seven great-great-granchildren;
many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services were held Tuesday, February 5, 1985 from the Wilson-Watson
Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Merlin WILKINS. Music was provided by Mrs. Weldon MEADOWS and
Mrs. Chris HEIGHTSHOE.
Casketbearers were Dean FUGATE, Lloyd WEEDA, Boyd TAGGART, Kevin FUGATE, Phillip GODDEN and
Chris HIGHTSHOE. Interment was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton, Iowa.
