OBITUARY ~ C. A. FUGATE

Claudie A[lbia]. FUGATE, eldest son of the late James and Belle (HALL) FUGATE, was born January 12, 1884, in Ringgold county, Iowa, and departed this life July 23, 1962, in the Greater Community Hospital in Creston.

He spent most of his life in Ringgold county, where he was engaged in farming. Due to ill health, he retired several years ago and moved to an acreage northeast of Diagonal.

On October 21, 1931, he was united in marrige to Hazel LAIRD. No children were born to this union, but five stepchildren were accepted and loved as his own.

While a resident of the state of Kansas, he united with the Methodist Church and attended worship services as long as his health permitted.

His parents died when he was a young man and, being the eldest child, he assumed the reponsibility of keeping the family together.

Two sisters preceded him in death - one in infancy and Elsie FUGATE, at the age of 20 years.

He is survived by his widow, Hazel; five stepchildren - Mrs. Frantie TAITOR, of Melrose Park, Ill., Mrs. Laverne FUGATE, of Greeley, Colo., Mrs Erma MONDARY, of Maryland, Mrs. Viola BECK, of Lincoln, Neb., and Dennis E. LAIRD, who is in military service; sixteen step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Nellie COOK, of Mount Ayr, Edna FUGATE and Neva HOFF, of Kellerton, Mary MORSS, of Riverton, Wyo., and Myrtle TAGGART, of Des Moines; four brothers, Bill FUGATE, of Webster City, Jasper FUGATE, of Riverton, Wyo., and Harry FUGATE and Ora FUGATE, of Kellerton, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held July 26, from the Rhoads Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Orville C. RINEHART. Mrs. Robert FISHER and Mrs. Billie KELLY sang, accompanied at the organ by Mrs. William HAROVER. Casketbearers were Everett FUGATE, Patrick FUGATE, Raymond BROOKS, Dean FUGATE, James FUGATE and Boyd TAGGERT. Interment was in the Maple Row Cemetery at Kellerton.
