OBITUARY ~ RUSSELL VERGENE FAUBION, SR.
Russell Vergene FAUBION, Sr. was born October 25, 1924 in Taylor county, Iowa to Myron Clark and Chloris Eldora FULWIDER
FAUBION. He departed this life September 14, 2007 at Clearview Nursing Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa at the age of 82.
was an only child. He attended country school and some elementary school in Blockton. He graduated from Blockton
high school and attended Northwest Missouri State College in Maryville, MO.
On December 22, 1946 RUssell was united
in marriage to Phyllis Lavene MOON by E. E. STRINGFELLOW, a Professor of Divinity in Drake University. On Easter Sunday
of the following year, Russell and Phyllis, along with her brothers, Bill and Eugene, and sister, Martha, were baptized
in the Christian Church by E. E. STRINGFELLOW. Russell and Phyllis remained faithful members of the church. Along with
other Christian men, many evenings were spent paneling the church auditorium. It still looks nice today. There was a
large class of adults who enjoyed doing many things together.
Russell sepnt his life farming. he also drove a school
bus for 50 years. . . many great kids and no accidents. After school hours he drove to many ball games, often in
For many years he was the Christmas Santa at the community hall and other private homes, giving children
and families much pleasure.
Russell and Phyllis have one son, Russell FAUBION, Jr., beter known as Rusty, who married
Tamera HAWHEE. They gave him two grandchildren, Matthew Christopher and Candice Irene, who were very devoted to him and he to
them. He took great pleasure in their accomplishments. He just wanted to see them more often.
In addition to the
Christian church, Russell was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Lions Club, a 50-year Mason, board member of the
MFA and an honorary member of the Waubonsie Unique Tractors Club. He drove tractors to and from the Des Moines State
Fairgrounds for many years. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle with a group and traveling in his travel trailer to a number
of states visiting relatives. He and Phyllis had a small home but relatives were always welcomed for meals and overnights.
Russell was a devoted husband and father. He will be greatly missed by his wife, Phyllis, son, Rusty, and wife Tammy,
grandchildren, Matthew and Candice, other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the Christian church in Blockton. Interment was made at
Rose Hill Cemetery in Blockton. Rev. Scott MARCUM officiated. Arrangements were handled by Prugh-Dunfee Funeral
Home of Grant City, MO.
