OBITUARY ~ MAXINE JOHNSTON EVERLING

Services for Maxine JOHNSTON EVERLING, 82, who died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, was held 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola. Burial followed in the Norwalk Cemetery.

Born May 24, 1926 in Kansas City, Kansas to Homer Ival and Mary Elizabeth JOHNSTON, Maxine graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1944. She married Ray Eldon EVERLING on August 4, 1944 in Creston, Iowa and moved to Norwalk in 1952. In 1984 she retired and then moved to Des Moines in 1999 where she lived until her death. She was a member of the Norwalk United Methodist Church, D.A.R. and Order of the Eastern Star in Norwalk wher she was a 53-member. She was a homemaker, C.N.A. and worked in several restaurants. Maxine enjoyed working puzzle books, reading, camping and her grandchildren.

Surviving are her daughters, Susan CONNER of Des Moines, Iowa and Shelia EVERLING of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; daughter, Sharon MAXWELL; grandson, Tracy FLETCHER and three brothers, Robert, Roger and Meredith JOHNSTON.

Order of Eastern Star services were held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, June 3. Memorials may be given to Ronald McDonald House. Online condolences may be sent at www.overtonfunerals.com.
