OBITUARY ~ JOHN LAVERNE EVANS

John EVANS, son of Roland and Ruth HATHAWAY EVANS, was born July 4, 1939 in Mount Ayr, Iowa, and died at home April 18, 2001.

He married Sherry Jeanette PHILLIPS on August 12, 1960. To this union two daughters were born, June Marie and Jonny Ann.

John was preceded in death by his parents; brother Richard EVANS; and sister Beverly ANDERSON.

Survivors include his wife Sherry; daughters, June EVANS of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Jonny NIEMEIR of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchilren Jessica Jon and Michael Evan; son-in-law James NIEMEIR; brothers, Bob and wife Phyllis of Mesa, Arizona, Lyndon and wife Sherrie of Storm Lake, Iowa; siters, Shirley SALTZMAN and husband Verle of Mount Ayr, Janice OLSON and husband Larry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Kathy WATTS and husband John of Spokane, Washingotn, Vickie WYMAN and husband Barry of Lyman, Nebraska; brother-in-law Mike ANDERSON of Waterloo, Iowa; sister-in-law Leona EVANS ROUNTREE of Independence, Missouri; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held April 21, 2001 at West Center Chapel in Omaha, Nebraska. Following cremation, burial will be at a later date in Omaha.

God saw the road was getting tough,
The hills were hard to climb,
And so He closed His loving eyes
And whispered, "Peace by thine."
The weary days, the hours of pain,
The weary nights are past.
The ever patient, worn out frame
Has found sweet rest at last.
