OBITUARY ~ HENRY G. ELMER

Henry Elmer ws born in Avoyelles Parish, LA on June 25, 1917 to Henry and Stella Rodgers Elmer, moving to Knowlton, IA in 1934. Henry passed away on November 17, 1998 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, IA at the age of 81 years.

Henry was united in marriage to Marjorie Mae Johnson in 1943 and they farmed near Shannon City, IA until 1963. The family moved to Kellerton, IA and later to Mount Ayr where he worked at Iowa Grain Elevator until his retirement in 1985. Henry then moved south of Mount Ayr where he enjoyed working in his garden and cooking for his family. Henry was a hard working individual with at witty sense of humor.

Henry was preceded in death by his wife in 1969; his son Mark on October 30, 1998; two grandchildren, David and Bryan Briner; and three sisters, Ethel Stack, Pearl Oziah and Nancy Oziah.

Henry is survived by his five children, Phyllis Mathany and her husband Merlyn of Carlisle, IA, James and his wife Kris of Sacramento, CA, Elaine Briner and her husband Vance of Blockton, IA, Richard and his wife Diana of Mount Ayr and Ginny Quick and her husband Bill of Redding, IA; 18 grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild; and a sister Elise Fountain of Arlington, VA.

Funeral services were at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr, on Saturday, November 21, 1998. Pastor Frack Mueller, Jr. officiated the service. Music was provided by Nancy Sackett, Mary Trullinger and Margaret Bickers. Pallbearers were Chris Powell, Cliff Smith, Beau Freeman, Kirk Haworth, Bill Schaefer, Steve Mathany and Michael Briner.

Interment was in the Knowlton [Centenary] Cemetery in Diagonal, IA.
