Ringgold Record
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa
April 04, 1907

Death of John T. Ellis.

John T[yler]. ELLIS died at his home in east Mt. Ayr Monday evening, April 1st [1907], about 7:30. He had been failing in health for [the] past year or more, his illness being some form of consumption. His death was not unexpected, as he and his family knowing the end was near for the past three weeks. Mr. ELLIS was an industrious man, tending strictly to his own affairs and faithful to his work. He was [a] janitor of the public school building for many years, but had to give it up about a year ago on account of his failing health.

He was a charter member of the Woodman lodge of Mt. Ayr and carried a policy of $2,000, which his family will no doubt receive. He leaves a wife and seven children, four sons and three daughters to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.

John T. ELLIS was born at Corydon, Wayne county, Iowa, April 5, 1856, the second of a family of eleven children and also a twin, his twin brother dying in 1890. He grew to manhood in Wayne county and from there went to Appanoose Co., where he was married to Elizabeth M. LINDEN, April 15, 1883, the same year coming to Ringgold county and settled at the old Goshen near where Diagonal now is. After residing there a few years, living on different farms, he removed to Mt. Ayr. In 1888 he united with the Methodist church of Mt. Ayr, and up to the time of his death was a faithful and consistent member. He was the father of ten children, three dying in infancy.

NOTE: John was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
