He had been in ill health for a number of years but was not considered serious until he took suddenly worse Wednesday, April 2nd, and gradually grew weaker until the end.

He united with the Christian church when it was organized here and continued in the faith. He was also an active member of the I.O.O.F. lodge No. 570 and Rebekah lodge No. 523 of Benton, Iowa.

He leaves to mourn his departure four brothers - L. S., A. J., T. O. and E. H. GROVES, who reside in Benton; also a host of relatives and friends. His father, mother, one brother, Russel, and two sisters, Amelia and Cora, have preceded him in death.

O Lord of life, thy quickening voice
Awakes my morning song;
In gladsome words I would rejoice
That I to Thee belong.
I see thy light, I feel thy wind
Earth is thy uttered word;
Whatever wakes my heart and mind,
Thy presence is, my Lord,
Therefore I choose my highest part,
And turn my face to Thee;
Therefore I stir my inmost heart,
To worship fervently.
Within my heart speak, Lord, speak on,
My heart alive to keep
Till comes the night, and labor done,
In Thee I fall asleep.

NOTE: Peter B. GROVES, father of William Udolpho, died at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 10 days on March 30, 1896, with interment at Benton Cemetery, Benton, Ringgold County, Iowa.
