LESTER GRIMES DIES - Mount Ayr

Lester GRIMES, 73, of Mount Ayr, passed away Sunday, July 9, 1989, at his home. He was a former resident of the Shannon City area.

He was born Nov. 12, 1915 in Shannon City, the son of Charles and Bernice (NAIDIEH) GRIMES. On Oct. 2, 1943, he married Thelma IBBOTSON in Indianola. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a produce dealer.

Mr. GRIMES is survived by his wife, Thelma of Mount Ayr; a son, Charles and wife, Eva GRIMES of Omaha, Neb.; two daughters, Mary Lynn and husband, Jerry JOBE of Darien, Ill. and Eileen McGRATH of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles GRIMES of Rancho Cordova, Calif., and Robert GRIMES of Wellsburg.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home of Mount Ayr with the Rev. Merlin WILKINS officiating. Burial was at the Tingley Cemetery with graveside military rites by Ringgold Post 172, American Legion of Mount Ayr.

Memorials may be directed to the United Presbyterian Church.
