NOTICE of DEATH - HAROLD GRIFFITH

Harold GRIFFITH, 97, of Atlanta, Ga., formerly of Mount Ayr, died March 17, 2005, at a nursing home in Atlanta, Ga. Services are pending at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr.

OBITUARY - HAROLD GRIFFITH

American Flag.jpg Harold GRIFFITH, 97, of Snellville, Ga., formerly of Mount Ayr, died March 17, 2005, at New London Health Care in Snellville, Ga.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 22, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Susan THOMAS will officiate the service. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr with military rites by American Legion Ringgold Post No. 172. Open visitation will be after noon today with the family receiving friends 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Mount Ayr. A memorial has been established in his name.

Mr. GRIFFITH, son of Mary (BERNARD) and Elijah M. GRIFFITH, was born June 3, 1907, in Richland, N.D. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-45. On April 5, 1945, he married Bette STEPHENS in St. Joseph, Mo. He worked as an import inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He retired in 1977 in Miami, Fla., moved to Mount Ayr, then to Snellville, Ga., six years ago. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge with his membership at Faith Lodge No. 179 in Mount Ayr, York Rite, Scottish Rite and the Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Bette GRIFFITH of Snellville, Ga.; two sons, Gregory GRIFFITH of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Geoffrey GRIFFITH of Snellville, Ga.; two daughters, Leora CALHOUN of Winnebago, Minn., and Mary GRIFFITH of Fayette, Ark.; brother Loren GRIFFITH and sister Doris RAMBO, both of Amboy, Minn.; brother-in-law Donald (wife Sue) STEPHENS of Mount Ayr; sister-in-law Joy (husband Dave) ROSLIEN of Decorah; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Dorothy GRIFFITH, brother-in-law Alan RAMBO and sister-in-law Genivieve GRIFFITH.

OBITUARY ~ HAROLD ESLI GRIFFITH

Harold Esli GRIFFITH was born to Elijah M. and Mary (BERNARD) GRIFFITH on June 3, 1907 at Richland, North Dakota.

Harold served his country from 1941 to 1945. He was united in marriage to Bette STEPHENS at Saint Joseph, Missouri.

Harold was an import inspector for the U.S.D.A., retiring out of Miami, Florida office in 1977. They returned to Mount Ayr, living here until 1999 when they moved to Snellville, Georgia.

Harold was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge,with his membership in the York Rite and Scottish Rite. Harold enjoyed his Masonic work and the friendships that prevailed.

He loved to pheasant hunt and awas still a good shot in his later years.

Harold passed away on March 17, 2005 at New London Health Care in Snellville, Georgia.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; a brother Marvin and his wife, Dorothy GRIFFITH; brother-in-law, Genevieve GRIFFITH.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife or nearly 60 years, Bette, of Snellville, Georgia; sons, Gregory and wife, April GRIFFITH of honolulu, Hawaii and Geoffrey and wife, Linda GRIFFITH of Oxford, Georgia; daughters, Leora CALHOUN of Winnebago, Minnesota and Mary GRIFFITH of Fayetteville, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; siblings, Loren GRIFFITH, Doris RAMBO and Grace GRIFFITH, all of Amboy, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Donald and wife, Sue STEPHENS of Mount Ayr; sister-in-law, Joy and husband, Dave ROSLEIN of Decorah, Iowa; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on March 22, 2005 at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa with Reverend Susan THOMAS officiating. Musicians were Jane THOMAS and Deb LARSON. Masonic rites were performed by Don HUMPHREY and Faith Lodge #179 A.F. & A.M.

Casket bearers were Donald (Jake) DAILEY, Warren ANGUS, Steve OXLEY, Laurance BISHOP, Max SMITH an Gerold WILLEY.

Honorary pallbearers were J. D. CALHOUN, Chris CALHOUN, Matthew WAGNER, Michael GRIFFITH, Andrew GRIFFITH and Lloyd BANKS.

Military rites were provided by Ringgold Post #172, Mount Ayr American Legion. Harold was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr.
