OBITUARY - DONALD RAY GOINS
CASAR, NC - Mr. Donald Ray GOINS, 53, of 146 Corinth Church Road, died Friday, February 9, 2001, at Cleveland Regional
A native of Omaha, Neb., he was the son of Edith GOINS of Diagonal, Iowa, and the late Lloyd GOINS. He
was a crop adjuster for the federal government. He was an avid Dale EARNHARDT fan, and he loved country music, dancing
and his many friends and neighbors.
In addition to his father, he was preceeded in death by his wife, June Ann GOINS.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Darin GOINS of Murray, Iowa; four stepsons, Robert ENGLAND of Casar,
Jerry ENGLAND of Bagley, Iowa, Dennis ENGLAND of Fort Worth, Texas, and Terry ENGLAND of Wellman, Iowa; two stepdaughters,
Carol KINDER of Hatfield, Mo., and Tammy SAMO of Villisca, Iowa; one brother, Jim GOINS of Diagonal; three sisters,
Shirley JONES of Joplin, Mo., Linda VANPELT of Urbandale, Iowa, and Betty GREENLEE of Pleasantville, Iowa; two half
brothers, Lloyd GOINS of Axtell, Kan., and Bill GOINS of Topeka, Kan.; 22 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Washburn & Dorsey Funeral Home with the Revs. Thomas IRVIN and Lloyd HUNT
officiating. The burial will be at a later date in Clearfield Cemetery, Clearfield, Iowa (sic, interment was at Diagonal Cemetery, Diagonal, Iowa).
The family will receive
friends for an hour and a half before the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Robert ENGLAND,
135 Golden Valley Road, Casar.

OBITUARY - DONALD RAY GOINS
On July 9, 1947, Donald Ray GOINS was born to Lloyd and Edith GOINS. He was the first little brother to Shirley his older
sister. His father worked in power line construction in different locations during these years. Two more brothers, Rex
and Jim, were born before the family moved to a farm west of Diagonal, Iowa. Two more sisters, Betty and Linda, were born
after the family moved to Diagonal.
Donald began his school years at the country school Lincoln #7, continuing his education at Diagonal Community school
where he graduated from high school in 1965.
Donald attended Iowa State University for a year and worked a few years with his dad and brother Jim in the dairy
business. He was then employed by Federal Crop Insurance.
In June of 1968 Donald was united in marriage to Ruth TRIDLE at the Diagonal Christian Church. One son, Darin, was born
to this union. Donald and Ruth were divorced in 1979.
On February 1, 1981, Donald married June ENGLAND and they made their home in Casar, North Carolina where they enjoyed
gardening, farming and dancing. He continued working some for Federal Crop Insurance.
Donald's health had declined rapidly the past several months. He was taken to the Cleveland Medical Clinic at Shelby,
North Carolina on February 3 where he died on the evening of February 9.
Preceding him in death were his father, his brother Rex and his wife June.
Surviving him are his mother Edith; his son Darin and wife Cindy of Murray, Iowa; sister Shirley JONES and husband Ron
of Webb City, Missouri; brother Jim and wife Joy of Diagonal; sister Betty GREENLEE and husband Keith of Pleasantville,
Iowa; sister Linda Van PELT and husband Bill of Urbandale, Iowa; two half-brothers, Lloyd GOINS of Axtell, Kansas and
Bill GOINS of Harton, Kansas; two step-daughters, Carol KINDER of Hatfield, Missouri and Tammy SAMO of Clarinda, Iowa; and
four step-sons, Robert ENGLAND of Casar, North Carolina, Jerry ENGLAND of Bagley, Iowa, Dennis ENGLAND of Fort Worth,
Texas and Terry ENGLAND of Washington, Iowa. Also left to mourn are nieces, nephews, cousins, step-grandchildren and
Donald made friends easily. He enjoyed people and made many visits on his trips back to Diagonal. He will be missed by
those who knew and loved him.
He was a member of the Diagonal Christian Church and past member of the Diagonal Lions and the Masonic Lodge.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, with
Reverend John BRILLO officiating.
Musicians were Judy NEWTON and John ALLEN. Casket bearers were Tom FLETCHER, Claire NEWTON, Frank GUNSOLLEY, Ron
OVERHOLSER, Jim STEPHENS and Ed ALLEE.
Donald was laid to rest in the Diagonal Cemetery, Diagonal.
