1926 - Mt. Ayr Record News

Mrs. J.S. Glendenning, b. in Rockbridge Co., VA on 11 Feb. 1852, d. 26 Mar 1926. Brothers Jacob (d. IA) and Luther, (d. VA) and sister Martha (d. VA). She came to Middle Fork Twp with her father, brother and sister; her mother died while she was quite young.

Married 9 Dec 1875 to John S. Glendenning, lived in Rice Twp. 7 children, all surviving except Flora M. Tyrrel, who died 9 May 1907. The living children include Wesley H. Glendenning of Mt. Ayr; Marietta M. Primmer; Virginia, at home; Luella B. Harden, Grace C. Garten of Rice twp; and Lela J. Denney of Middle Fork Twp. And 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Mr. James C. Shaffer of OK; Watson Shaffer of Redding and Robert Shaffer of Redding, and one sister, Mrs. Floyd Main of Mt. Ayr.

Mrs. Glendenning was united with the Methodist Episcopal church. She died of pneumonia on 13 Mar.

NOTE: She and John are buried at Rose Hill Cem, Mt. Ayr, Ringgold Co., IA, and her father was Jeremiah SHAFER.
