OBITUARY - DOROTHY FERNE (WEBB) GILES

Dorothy Ferne GILES was born May 3, 1918 in Union county, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Webb and Laura Wilson WEBB.

Dorothy grew up in Sandcreek township in Union county. She attended Melrose country school and Tingley high school, graduating in 1937. After high school she lived at home taking care of her mother, Laura, until her death in 1944.

In 1946 she married Donald GILES in Troy, Kansas. The couple lived on a farm one mile north of her birthplace until 1965 when they moved to Arispe, Iowa. Don passed away in 1971. In 1979 Dorothy moved to Creston, Iowa, and in 1995 she entered the Cresthaven Care Centre.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Creston, the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, the Livewire Club and the E.O.W. Card Club.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, having made afghan blankets for many years. She enjoyed spending time in her garden where she raised African violets and petunias. She was a wonderful cook, her family fondly remembers her coffee pie. Dorothy had a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and was always quick to smile. She had a special place in her heart for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: Dale GILES and wife Sue of Kansas City, Missouri, Shirley CALLISON and husband Rick of Greenfield, Iowa and James GILES and wife Rhonda of Creston; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her husband Donald in 1971; her parents, Clarence and Laura; and two sisters, Anna and Hazel.
