OBITUARY - NELLIE VIOLA (ARNOLD) FUGATE

Nellie Viola FUGATE, daughter of Frank and Emma ARNOLD, was born at home on her parents' farm near Ellston, Iowa on March 7, 1909. She departed this life on October 27, 1999 at the Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr, Iowa.

Nellie attended Pumptown country school. Her mother took her to school many times in a one horse sleigh. She graduated from the Ellston high school in 1927.

On February 20, 1929 she married Ora FUGATE in Creston, Iowa. They lived in Ellston one year, then in 1930 they moved to Kellerton, Iowa where she and Ora spent their married life. Ora was owner of the Kellerton Oil Co. Nellie was a devoted wife, mother, homemaker and owned and operated the Kellerton Laundromat for 17 years.

She enjoyed cooking and baking. Many delicious meals were enjoyed in her home.

Nellie was baptized in the Kellerton Christian Church on February 21, 1943.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Ora in 1989; son Arnold Dean in 1999; two brothers, Roy and Orville; and a sister Arlene TONEY.

She is survived by her daughter Judy KAESTNER and husband Larry; daughter-in-law Rose FUGATE; eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held at the Christian Church in Kellerton on Saturday, October 30, 1999 with Reverend Terry ROBERTS officiating. Music was provided by Marie MURPHY and Reverend Terry ROBERTS. Casketbearers were Steven KAESTNER, Mark KAESTNER, Michael FUGATE, Rob FUGATE, Sam MERRILL, Chester MUNYON and Robert LEWIS.

Interment was in the Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton. Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
