OBITUARY - CELA IMO (ATWOOD) FUGATE

[Cela Imo FUGATE] was born January 8, 1909 at What Cheer [IA] to Ota Ellsworth and Jennie May (MOLYNEUX) ATWOOD. She moved to Sigourney at the age of four and graduated from Sigourney High School in May 1925 at the age of 16. In 1927 she dedicated her life to full time Christian service at a Christian Endeavor Convention. She graduated from Drake University in Des Moines in 1932 with a Bachelor of Sacred Ligature. She ministered in Lancaster, Keenersberg and Kinross before moving to Kellerton in 1935. She was a minister at the Kellerton Christian Church throughout the 1940's to the 1990's. She also taught fifth and sixth grade at Kellerton in the 1940's. She was united in marriage to Harry Edwin FUGATE on April 8, 1941. They formed a partnership with Harry's brother, Ore, in the Kellerton Oil Company, operating a gas station and bulk oil business. She had the privilege of marrying many couples throughout the years. She was a member of the Beta Gamma Kappa at Drake University, Ringgold County Ministerial Association and a past Noble Grand of the Valentine Rebekah Lodge #528.

She is survived by two daughters, LaVeta BROOKS of Kellerton and Cleo HIGHLAND of Webster City; a daughter-in-law, Betty Jean FUGATE of Carlisle; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marie ATWOOD of Sigourney; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Everett; an infant granddaughter; son-in-law, Raymond BROOKS; brother, Arley ATWOOD; sister and brother-in-law, Velda and Archie CHILDERS.

Memorial services will be held Sunday, December 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the Kellerton Christian Church. Burial of the cremains will be in the Maple Row Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Trinity Christian Church, located on Hwy. 2 east of Kellerton.

Wilson - Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr is in charge of arrangements.
