OBITUARY

Myrtle Myree STEVENS was born July 28, 1891 in Grant township, Ringgold county, Iowa near the early town of Goshen. She attended church at Goshen and nearby Bethel school, was graduated from the Diagonal High School with the class of 1909. She became a member of the Presbyterian Church in Diagonal soon after it was organized, and [was] a choir member.

Her marriage to Rudolph FOGLE took place February 16, 1910 with their life together to continue for 54 years. During this time they maintained a happy home for their family, relatives and friends, sharing their energy in the business of farming, and later in operating a Star mail route for 14 years, retiring to the present home in Diagonal.

As last survivor of the pioneer STEVENS family, she was preceded in death by her parents Ralph E. and Nancy (SIMPSON) STEVENS, by four sisters and four brothers, Alta MONK, Carrie JONES, LURA WILLIAMS, Homer, Walter, and Edward STEVENS, and a sister and brother who died in infancy. The FOGLE [family] includes four daughters and one son. - Lucille (Mrs. Robert NICHOLS) of Vancouver, Washington., Geraldine (Mrs. Freeman RIEF), Diagonal, Marie (Mrs. Ray MAES), Vancouver, Washington., Margaret (Mrs. Claud COCHRAN), Portland, Ore., and Raymond FOGLE, Creston. Also surviving are the sons-in-law, Freeman, Ray and Claud, a daughter-in-law Betty; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Ed STEVENS, Shenadoah; nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Rudolph on April 1, 1964; a son-in-law, Robert NICHOLS; a grandson, Alan McCREARY, and two infant great-grandchildren.
