OBITUARY - KENNETH EUGENE FINE

On October 21, 1925, near Kent, Iowa, Kenneth Eugene Fine would be born the youngest child to William Roy and Mary Cordelia (CHANDLER) FINE. With older brother Wayne and sister Verna (STARMER), Kenneth later grew up in the Diagonal area attending the Diagonal schools before entering the military and serving in WW II with the Army Air Corp.

On October 28, 1945 at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church, Kenneth was united in marriage to Erma Jo SLAVIK and to this union they would later share in the blessing of one son, Jim.

Kenneth was employed during his life as an auto parts manager working for various companies before retiring from Holmes Oldsmobile.

Kenneth served as president and past member of the Isaac Walton League in Des Moines, the Masons, Za Ga Zig Shrine and faithful member and past trustee of the Highland Park United Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors on his farm south of Diagonal before his illness and three year residency at Clearview Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, where he passed on February 3, 2001.

Preceding him in death are his parents; his sister Verna STARMER; and his wife Erma Jo.

Surviving him in death are his son Jim and wife Rogena of Des Moines; a brother Wayne and wife Jan FINE of Platteville, Wisconsin; brothers and sister-in-law, Elmer STARMER, Buck KESSLER and wife Louise.

Kenneth was a fine son, faithful husband, good dad, father-in-law and first-rate brother, brother-in-law and friend. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 6, 2001, at United Church of Diagonal, Diagonal with Reverend Pam FARREN officiating. Musicians were Judy NEWTON and Sherry WILEY. Casket bearers were Delmer BROWN, Eldon STARMER, Jay WATSON, Darrell BROWN, Matt STARMER and Larry TEPLEY.

Military graveside rites were given by Morris Herrold Post #395 American Legion.

Kenneth was laid to rest in the Bohemian Cemetery, Diagonal.

Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
