The Ringgold Record, 1899

DEATH of MRS. J. S. EVERETT.

Mrs. Amanda EVERETT died at her home in this city Thursday morning, March 2 [1899], after a short illness. About two weeks ago she was taken ill with the grippe, which with other complications, finally resulted in nervous prostration, causing her death.

Mrs. EVERETT's maiden name was Amanda LEE. She was born March 7, 1849, in Edgar county, Ill. She came to Marion county, Iowa, with her parents in 1856, where she was married October 17, 1872, to J. S. EVERETT. They came to Mt. Ayr in 1873 and have since resided here. Mr. EVERETT's death occured about one year ago. There were two children born to them, a son Frank, now employed as a stenographer by Henry & Spence; a daughter Mary, in school. Mrs. EVERETT was a good Christian, but not a member of any church. Her life was one of kind acts and noble deeds.

The funeral services were conducted Saturday at 2 o'clock p.m. from the home by Rev. D. F. SELLARDS. The sincere sympathy of the community goes out to the bereaved children.

NOTE: Amanda (LEE) EVERETT was 49 years, 11 months and 25 days old at the time of her death. She was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa. John S. EVERETT, husband of Amanda (LEE), died on April 17, 1897 with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Transcription and note by Sharon R. Becker, 2008
