Surrounded by his family, Jack Wade ETHINGTON, 73, of Des Moines died at Iowa Lutheran Hospital on November 19, 2009, from complications of surgery and lung disease.

He entered the Army and served in Germany as a paratrooper during the Korean War years. He returned to live in Des Moines where he worked for several construction companies mastering the art of masonry. Known for his meticulous brick work, Jack eventually started his own company, Jack ETHINGTON Construction, and served Des Moines area home builders for many years until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Karen; his children Randy and Jeff (Dara); four grandchildren, Roxanna (Jon) BAILEY, Anna, Jacob and Zachary ETHINGTON; and one great-granddaughter, Kelsey PETERSON. He is also survived by siblings Marion (Carolyn) ETHINGTON, Carol (Lloyd) REED, and Jim (Olivia) ETHINGTON; brothers-in-law Jack (Doris) MATHIS and Bob (Shirley) MATHIS; and many nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Patricia FOX and great-nephew Cody CASEY.
