Mount Ayr Record-News
Mount Ayr, Ringgold County, Iowa

OBITUARY

Opal Rudeen ELLISON was born March 10, 1910 in Arkansas. Her father died when Opal was nine and her mother, Pauline FREEMAN, raised her in Sweetwater, Texas.

On August 8, 1942 she was united in marriage to Stewart V. ELLISON in Mineral Wells, Texas. After Stewart was discharged from the U.S. Army, they returned to Ringgold county, Iowa and made this their home for most of their adult lives.

Opal was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Ayr. Opal liked to go places and enjoyed going out for dinner. Opal and Stewart moved to Omaha, Nebraska in the early 1990's and Stewart passed away on March 3, 1993. In April, 1994, Opal moved to Fredericksburg, Virginia to live with her daughter Carol and her family. A severe stroke sent Opal to a nursing home in Fredericksburg where she lived for two years, and on February 2, 1999, Opal passed away at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia at the age of 88 years.

Opal was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers and sisters.

Left to mourn her passing are her children, Carol EVINGER and husband George of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and Victor ELLISON and wife Sun of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kelli, Kay and Mikal EVINGER; and brothers and sisters in Texas.

Services were at the Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Monday, February 8, 1999 with Reverend Ralph JOHNSON and Reverend Carmen ZEITLER officiating. Musicians were Debbie CANNON, Mary TRULLINGER and Margaret BICKERS. Casketbearers were Howard SOUTH, Warren ANGUS, Bill RUGS, George EVINGER, Everett POWELL and Dennis STEPHENS.

Interment was in the Oliver Cemetery.
