OBITUARY ~ MADGE SARAH (PETTIT) DUNNING
January 15, 1882 ~ May 11, 1975

Mrs. Walter Lyle Dunning, 93, of Des Moines, a former Ottumwan, died Sunday [May 11, 1975] at Heather Manor in Des Moines.

She was the widow of Dr. Lyle Dunning [married June 27, 1906]], a dentist in Ottumwa until 1952. He preceded her in death in 1960.

She as born Jan. 15, 1882 [oldest daughter of Wamsey and Mary (Walcutt) Pettit], in Oskaloosa and married Dr. Lyle Dunning there in 1906, when they moved to Ottumwa. She was prominent in Ottumwa civic activities and founded the Whatsoever Circle.

In 1952, she and Dr. Dunning moved to Chalfont, Pa.

Survivors include one daughter, Paroda Ann Toms of Glenview, Ill.; two sons, John W. of Cleveland and Barton B. of Chalfont; a brother, Leonard of Chalfont; and two sisters, Dorothy of Chalfont and Ella of Pasadena, Calif.

Graveside ceremonies will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Ottumwa Cemetery with the Rev. J.A. Seabrook officiating. The Jay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
