Dr. Walter L. Dunning, 61, of Pinetree Manor, Chalfont, Pa., died Saturday at a Doylestown Pa., hospital.
Dr. Dunning practiced dentistry in Ottumwa for over 50 years and retired in 1952. He had lived in Chalfont since that time.
He was born in Mt. Ayr, May 15, 1879, the son of Day and Paroda Ann Keller Dunning. He was married in Oskaloosa on June 27, 1906, to Madge S. Pettitt, who survives.
Dr. Dunning attended Mt. Ayr High School and was graduated from the State University of Iowa in dental surgery in 1902.
He was a life member of the American Dental Association and a member of the Iowa Dental Society.
He was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Doylestown, Pa., and was a charger member of the Ottumwa Kiwanis Club.
Survivors include four children, Mrs. Jackson E. Beighle of West Point, Conn., Dr. John W. Dunning of Cleveland, Ohio, Barton B. Dunning of Meadville, Pa., and Mrs. John E. Toms of Glenview, Ill.; five sisters, Mrs. Laura McCoy of Indianola, Mrs. Ethel Judson of Boone, Mrs. Wilbur Kirby of Florida, Mrs. Vern Hall of Kansas, and Mrs. Sherri Harris of Florida; a brother, Paul Dunning of Marengo; and 10 grandchildren.
Arrangements were in charge of the Charles Reed Funeral Home in Doylestown, Pa. Services were held today at the St. Paul Episcopal Church there. The body is to be cremated. Graveside services with the Jay Funeral Home in charge will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Ottumwa Cemetery. The Rev. James A. Postel, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate.
The family will arrive in Ottumwa Thursday p.m. A memorial fund for Dr. Dunning has been established for the Trinity Episcopal Church here.
