OBITUARY ~ BERNARD DUANE DUBEN

Bernard D. DUBEN, age 76, of Ellston, Iowa, formerly of Creston, Iowa, died Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bernard Duane DUBEN, son of Ruth Frances (RICE) and Arthur Joseph DUBEN, was born November 21, 1927 at Nevinville, Iowa. He graduated from Richland Township high school of rural Orient, in 1945. Bernard enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, and had a medical discharge.

On June 3, 1951, Bernard married Rojean J. JOHANNSEN in Preston, Iowa. They settled in Whiting where Bernard taught junior high math and coached girl's high school basketball. In 1960, they moved to Creston, where he worked at Iowa State Savings Bank until 1970. They lived in Klemme from 1970 to 1985, then in Osceola until 1990, when Bernard retired from banking. They moved to Sun Valley Lake, where Bernard sold real estate, primarily for J.D. Moberg of Creston.

Bernard served on the Creston city council, as a district leader for the Iowa Heart Association and in the Property Owners Association of Sun Valley Lake. He was a member of the Ellston United Methodist Church and the Ellston American Legion Post #541. He was also formerly a member and district chairman of the Iowa Bankers Association and the Tingley Lions Club.

Survivors include his wife Rojean of Ellston; one son, Mark (wife Kelly) DUBEN of Urbandale, Iowa and one daughter, Tami (husband Jim) FLOWERS of Creston; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister JoAnn (husband Lester "Red") SNOWBARGER of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents.

Services were held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2004 at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Pastor Brian OLIVER will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery of Creston. Graveside military rites will be at (sic) the Ellston American Legion Post #541.

Memorials may be made to the Ellston United Methodist Church or the Iowa Heart Association.
