OBITUARY ~ MARJORIE "ALBERTA" (HALL) DRAKE
Marjorie Alberta DRAKE was born November 8, 1913, to Wilbur and Marie HALL, who lived five miles southeast of Kellerton,
She attended country school at Cornstalk College through the eighth grade, then attended Kellerton high school,
graduating in 1930, at the age of 16 years.
On June 24, 1933 she was united in marriage to Albert DRAKE. To this union
were born two children: Dennis Lee in 1938 and Carolyn Louise in 1942. They lived on various farms in the Kellerton
territory until 1941 when they moved to a farm in Middle Fork township south of Mount Ayr, Iowa. In 1967 they moved
to Webster City, Iowa where they lived for three years. They returned to Mount Ayr in 1970 where she had resided until
She gave her heart to the Lord in 1946, was baptized in her and Albert's farm pond and became a member of
the Hickory Grove Advent Christian Church where she attended until 1950. She then moved her membership to the First
Christian Church in Mount Ayr where she regularly attended church, served as deaconess, was active in the Christian
Women Society, helped many years with bereavement dinners and other behind-the-scenes activities, and was especially
involved with the Dorcas women who made lap robes for the residents in both nursing homes in Mount Ayr and made a comforter
for every fire victim.
They were privileged to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on June 24, 2003.
years, Alberta and her husband were responsible for making all the arrangements for the bingo activity at the Clearview
Nursing Home. She faithfully helped there weekly for almost 30 years. Alberta also served on the Care Review Committee
of Clearview Nursing Home for 30 years until her health made her unable to continue her generous volunteerism.
a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many, always willing to help others.
Alberta departed this life on September 5, 2003, just two months before she would have celebrated her 90th birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Surviving is her husband Albert of Mount Ayr; children, Dennis and wife
Karen and Carolyn, of Omaha, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Scott of Davenport, Iowa, Michelle and husband Jon
and Jenny and her fiance Josh, all of Omaha, and Skeet and wife Sheri of Albany, New York; three great-grandchildren,
Debbie of Mississippi and Andy and Jay of Albany.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2003
at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Reverends Max HALL and John BRILLO officiating. Musicians
were Ginny EIGHMY and Sue BECK. Casket bearers were Joe ROUTH, Phil FOLTZ, Doug HYMBAUGH, Harold BOWER, LBanks WILSON
and Shelby BEAUCHAMP.
Alberta was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
