OBITUARY ~ MELVIN EUGENE DOOLITTLE

August 16, 1942 ~ December 06, 2011

Melvin Eugene DOOLITTLE, son of Clifford Dorman & Ethel Arena (STILL) DOOLITTLE, was born August 16, 1942 in Nevada, Iowa and passed away at his home in Kellerton on December 6, 2011.

Melvin married Judy Maxine REED on September 20, 1959 and to this union three daughters were born; Debbie, Penni, and Teena.

Melvin enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family & friends; being a member of the Waubonsie Tractor Club and showing off his Empire & A/C WD45 tractors. He loved having his family around at all time. He loved games such as cribbage, pitch, and pegs & jokers.

Melvin was a jack of all trades and master of none, but, he was busier than a one legged man in a butt kicking contest; and if you couldn't see it from the courthouse, it didn't matter! He had multiple jobs-siding applicator, truck driver, roofer, mechanic, laborer, and farmer. He made many friends that preceded him in death and survive him in death. In 2010, Melvin accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior and was baptized.

Melvin was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford & Ethel DOOLITTLE; brother Clifford LeRoy DOOLITTLE; father-in-law Oscar Clifford REED; sister-in-law Bonnie ROSS and brother-in-law Jackie ROSS; aunts & uncles.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Judy DOOLITTLE of Kellerton; daughters Debbie (Rod) HOLMES of Kellerton, Penni HEWLETT & friend Dana HALL of Iowa City, and Teena (Jeff) HASH of Leon; son-in-law Greg HEWLETT of Grand River; grandchildren Chad (Jamie) HOLMES, Ben (Bessy) HEWLETT, Amber (Wes) RICHARDS, Travis (Cassie) HOLMES, Aric HEWLETT; great-grandchildren Tristan, Darrian, Kaidan, Traivyn, Cortlynn HOLMES, Wyatt, Aryanna, Ahnyka HEWLETT, Emma & Jeffrey Richards; brothers Larry (Beth) DOOLITTLE of Redding and Steve (Janice) DOOLITTLE of Kellerton; mother-in-law Loreen REED of Kellerton; sister-in-law Donna (Marion) STARK of Kellerton; brother-in-law Gene (Cathy) REED of Ellston; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many good friends.

A memorial fund has been established in his name to be decided later.

Funeral services were held on December 10 at 10:00 AM at Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home, Mount Ayr, Iowa. Interment was made at Maple Row Cemetery, Kellerton, Iowa.

Watson-Armstrong Funeral Home of Mount Ayr was in charge of arrangements.
