OBITUARY ~ EDWARD DeFEO, M.D.

Edward DeFEO, MD, 1258 Hawthorne Road [Schenectady, New York], husband of Helen HOBBS DeFEO (who was born and raised in the Mount Ayr, Iowa area), died Thursday, June 26, 2008, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, New York. After receiving a degree in medicine from Saint Louis Univeristy School of Medicine in 1944, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Philippine Island as a captain. He then completed his medical internship and radiology residency at Ellis Hospital. He was the first radiologist employed by Saint Clare's Hospital in Schenectady, New York. He was an attending radiologist and chief of radiology at Ellis Hospital from 1954 to 1986. Dr. DeFEO was the founder and first president of the Notheastern New York Radiology Society and founder/past-president of the Schenectady Radiologist, PC. He had published numerous articles in medical journals throughout his career.

His wife of 59 years, Helen (HOBBS) DeFEO; two sons, Brian DeFEO (Lona) of Middleburgh, New York and Timothy DeFEO of Boston, Massachusetts and one grandson, Kyle DeFEO of Albany, New York, survive him.

Services are scheduled for Saturday, August 9, at 2 p.m. at the Baxter-Andrew Funeral Home, 1867 State Street, Schenectady, New York.
