OBITUARY ~ AMES RUSSELL CROSS
September 27, 1913 ~ March 31, 1991
Ames Russell Cross, son of Walter A. Cross and Etta M. Hall Cross, was born Sept. 27, 1913 at the farm north of Benton, IA. He departed this life March 31, 1991 at the Ringgold County Hospital.SERVICES
Ames attended and graduated from the Benton Public School. At an early age he accepted Christ & became a member of the Benton Methodist Church.
On Oct. 26, 1937 he
was uited in marriage to Elberta R. McKinstry of Clearfield, IA. They established their home in Mount Ayr where Ames continued his automotive business until his retirement in 1983, selling Jeeps, I. H. trucks, Nash cars, and gas was a business he enjoyed & through which he made many friends far & wide. He was never too busy to offer a helping hand to friend or stranger.
Ames was a charter
member of the Mt. Ayr Lions Club and worked in the Business Men's Club.
He leaves to mourn his loving wife, 3 devoted sons, Ron & Alvin of Des Moines, Mac & wife Pam of Mt. Ayr, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, one brother Eugene & wife Martha of Kansas City, MO, 2 brothers-in-law, Leroy Schlapia of Creston & James McKinstry & wife Blanche of Marshalltown, IA., 7
nephews, 4 nieces, & a host of friends.
