OBITUARY ~ MONA C. (VAN WINKLE) MARSHALL CREGEEN

Mona CREGEEN, age 93, of Clarinda, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 7, 2003, at Westridge Care and Rehab Center in Clarinda. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 10, 2003 at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home, Clarinda, with Reverend Richard ISKE officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 9, 2003, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. A memorial will be established. Walker-Merrick Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mona C. CREGEEN was born January 4, 1910 in Barnes county, North Dakota, to William Andrew VAN WINKLE and Cassie Lee (YOUNG) VAN WINKLE. Mona was united in marriage October 4, 1944 at Grand (sic, should be Grant) City, Missouri to Gernie MARSHALL, who preceded her in death June 1965. She married Paul CREGEEN on November 8, 1976 and he also preceded her in death December 12, 1984.

Mona worked as a nurse's aid at the nursing home in Mount Ayr 1972-1974 and at the Williams Nursing Home until it closed. She also worked as a nurse's aid for the Page County Home in Clarinda. Mona enjoyed volunteer work and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a Gold Star mother. Mona liked flower gardening and strawberries and also like to crochet. She was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Clarinda.

Preceding Mona in death where her parents; both husbands; sons, Jack MARSHALL (1950) and Melvin MARSHALL (1953 hunting accident), and infant daughter (1954); brother and sisters, Ada Ruth VANWINKLE, Bert Andrew VAN WINKLE, Lula Genevia VAN WINKLE, Lucy Ellen VAN WINKLE, and two infant sisters.

Survivors include her daughter Jane SEBENIECHER and husband Roger of Clarinda; grandchildren, Stacy HARVEY and husband Howard of Braddyville, Iowa, Angela LOHER and husband Kyle of Omaha, Nebraska; three great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Marcella DERGEN of Omaha, Nebraska, Michael CREGEEN of Omaha, Nebraska, Mort CREGEEN and wife Donna of California, Marilyn BAILEY and her husband Leon of Texas, Mel CREGEEN of Perry, Iowa; and 18 stepgrandchildren, several stepgreat-grandchildren and cousins.
