OBITUARY ~ WILLIAM AUGUSTUS COOK

William A. COOK, son of Frederick and Julie Ann COOK, was born May 14, 1872, at Joliet, Ill., and departed this life November 10, 1952, at the Ringgold County Hospital, after an illness of [a] long duration. He was 80 years, five months and 26 days of age.

On January 21, 1950, he suffered a light stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered. About a month ago his health began to fail and grew gradually worse until the end.

On February 21, 1906, he was united in marriage with Nellie Leona FUGATE, and to this union were born six children - two sons and four daughters.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Nellie; five children - Viola SWIETLIK, of Chicago, Ill., Leona POTTORFF, of Mount Ayr, Wayne COOK and Arleta COOK, of Sacramento, Calif., and Helen VOWELS, of Glendale, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six half-sisters, Mattie CORNMAN, Ida ARMSTRONG and Lucy MOSIER, of Wenatchee, Wash., Verna WHITING, of Electric City, Wash., Mamie SMITH, of Bellflower, Calif., and Eva STACY of Mount Ayr, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Orville Albia, who passed away at the age of nine weeks, his parents, his only sister, Minnie ANDREWS, and two half-brothers, Andrew GRUBB and Daniel O. GRUBB.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, November 11, from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. George C. PENNINGTON, pastor of the Methodist church. Music was furnished by a mixed quartet composed of Mrs. E. K. ALLEN, Mrs. Burl DICKERSON, H. L. CORNELISON and Robert HUDSON, with Margaret PENCE at the organ. Casketbearers were Keith HARDY, Floyd CAMPBELL, C. R. TRIMBLE, Jesse SKINNER, J. E. HORNE and W. T. TIMBLY. Burial was in the Marshalltown Cemetery, Ringgold County.
