Mount Ayr man killed
in two vehicle accident

Scott Eric COMER, 33, of Mount Ayr is dead after his pickup collided on a Ringgold County gravel road with one driven by Ellis MAUDLIN, 58 of rural Mount Ayr.

Iowa Highway Patrol, Ringgold County sheriff's officers, the Mount Ayr Fire Department and two Ringgold County ambulances were called to the scene, two miles north of Highway 2 on P54, around 8 a.m. Thursday morning, Nov. 18.

COMER is the son of Gene and Lucy COMER of Mount Ayr. He lived in Mount Ayr and was a construction worker and was employed parttime at the mount Ayr Livestock Auction.

COMER'S 1978 GMC pickup and MAUDLIN'S 1991 Dodge pickup both were totaled in the accident.

COMER and MAUDLIN were both brought to the Ringgold County Hospital where MAULDIN was treated and released.

COMER was reported to be west-bound on an unmarked (not given a road number) gravel road. MAUDLIN was north-bound on P54. COMER had stopped at a stop sign and was making a left hand turn to go south on P54, according to the report. The report indicated that MAUDLIN saw COMER'S pickup turning, applied brakes, but struck it in the left front. It was foggy that morning.

The first auto fatality for Ringgold County this year was considered to be Elmer MOATS, 72, of Shannon City, who suffered a fatal heart attack and was involved in a two-car collision nine miles north of Mount Ayr on Highway 169 on April 10. COMER is the second auto fatality.

Funeral services for COMER were held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30 at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, with interment at Benton Cemetery.
