OBITUARY ~ CHARLES EDWIN CHANEY

Charles Edwin, son of John and Elizabeth Chaney, was born near Corning, Iowa, June 22, 1873 and died April 8, 1938, at his home in Clearfield at the age of 64 years, 9 months and 16 days.

He received his education from the school at Brooks, Iowa, and as he grew into manhood chose the trade of blacksmith and became an efficient worker in the shops.

On November 18, 1900 he was married to Minnie Richards of Brooks. They began their life's journey together at Long Branch, Iowa. After removal to Sharpsburg and Blockton, Mr. Chaney decided to bring his family to Clearfield, where he lived the remainder of his life.

Five children were born, Alice Hargin, who proceeded her father in death March 17, 1934, Herman and Robert of Clearfield, Walter of Santa Monica, Calif. and Hazel Hargen of Conway.

Mr. Chaney was always honest in his dealing and courteous to his customers. He was a kind neighbor and a loving husband and father. Two years ago he was compelled by ill health to retire and was an invalid the greater part of the time. His last great suffering however was of less than a day’s duration.

He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter, five grandchildren, one brother John W. of Los Angeles, Calif., four sisters, Belle Chaney, Dolly McRae and May Inman of Santa Monica, Calif., and Mollis Whilock of Eldon, Mo. and Ralph Johnson, a nephew, who made his home with Mr. and Mrs Chaney for a number of years.
