OBITUARY ~ GOLDIE (ANDERSON) CARLTON

Goldie (Alderson) Carlton was born May 22, 1888 in Marion County, Illinois, daughter of U.B. (Barney) Alderson and Florence (Murphy) Alderson. At the age of two years she moved to Kinmundy, Ill. with her parents. In 1895 she moved with her family to Lenox, Ia. where she grew to womanhood, graduating from Lenox High School in 1907.

On December 25, 1910 she was married to Jean R. Carlton at her home in Lenox, Ia. To this union two children were born; a daughter Louise and a son David (Tom). The family moved to Missouri in 1916, living 27 years in that state. While living in Maryville, Mo. the daughter lost her life in a car accident. The son gave his life for his country in World War II in the South Pacific Islands, while serving in the Marine Corp on November 20, 1943.

Goldie and her husband moved back to Iowa in 1943, settling on a farm in Ringgold County. On account of her husband's health, they moved to Creston, Ia. on February 18, 1957. Her husband passed away May 26, 1959.

Besides her husband and children, her parents, two brothers, and a niece preceded her in death.

She leaves a niece, Patricia Early of Portland, Or., a niece-in-law, Peggie Alderson of Shawnee Mission, Ks., a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ethel Brady of California; four great nephews, two great nieces, several cousins, and friends.

Goldie entered the O.E.S. Home in Boone, Ia. on November 10, 1972, having been a member of Eastern Star for 40 years. She has been a member of the Methodist Church since she was 10 years old. She was a member of V.F.W. of Creston, Ia.

Goldie passed away July 30, 1988 at the Boone Hospital. Services were held Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 10:00 a.m. at the O.E.S. Home in Boone and graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. at the Clearfield Cemetery in Clearfield, Ia.
