OBITUARY ~ MARILYN ELAINE (SNEDEKER) CANNON
Marilyn Elaine CANNON was born July 9, 1944 in Leon, Iowa to Donald H. and Maxine (TERWILLGER) SNEDEKER. She departed
this life on August 10, 2002 after a courageous battle.
She graduated from Mount Ayr High School in 1962 and was united
in marriage to Gerald Duane CANNON on June 29, 1962 in Mount Ayr. Two children were born to this union, Greggory Lynn and
Marilyn and Gerald spent all but three years of their marriage in Mount Ayr. After several years of working as
a telephone operator for Contel, she began work as a jailor/dispatcher in September 1986 at the Ringgold County Sheriff's
office. She not only enjoyed this work, but she valued the friendships made and considered them like family.
great joy in watching her flower gardens bloom and feeding and watching the variety of birds that came around the house.
Taking photos of family and activities of the children and grandchildren was also a favorite hobby, for preserving memories
was important to her. Marilyn also looked forward to being with her friends on the bowling team and their annual trips to the
state tournament. She could also be seen at craft shows where she picked up ideas and used her natural talents to create
many gifts to share withher friends and family. Of these interests Marilyn found her greatest pride and fulfillment in following
the many activities of her grandchildren, Courtney, Brett and Jena. May they always remember how very special they were to
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Donald "Mick" and Maxine SNEDEKER, and her father-in-law, Virgil CANNON.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Gerald; son Gregg and wife Debbie and their children, Courtney and Brett;
her daughter Tammy and husband Kevin JAMES and their daughter Jena, all of Mount Ayr; brother Donald SNEDEKER and wife Judy
of Norwalk; brother John SNEDEKER of Mount ayr; sister Norma K. RECTOR and husband Gene of Northglenn, Colorado; mother-in-law
Mildred CANNON of Mount Ayr; along with a host of nieces,nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Wednesday,
August 14, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr. Pastor JOhn BRILLO and Pastor Sue THOMAS officiated.
Drew INGRAM provided vocal music and was accompanied by Nancy SACKETT.
Casket bearers were Bob BENNETT, Kevin CAMPBELL,
Randy JOHNSON, Lyle MINNICK, Dale MAGEE and Howard JOHNSON.
Honorary pallbearers were Janet HALEY, D'Ambra HAINLINE,
Toni RICHARDS, Carol OXLEY and Becky FLETCHALL.
Marilyn was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mount Ayr, Iowa.
