JOHN "PAUL" DUKES DIES - Mt. Ayr

Paul DUKES, 79, of Mount Ayr passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 1989, upon arrival at the Ringgold County Hospital there.

He was born May 11, 1910, in Ellston, the son of John and Isabelle (CANFIELD) DUKES. He graduated from Ellston High School in 1929. On May 16, 1931, he married Veneta MINNICK in Osceola.

He was a retired farmer and a member of the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church. He was a past member of the Diagonal Lions Club and a lifetime resident of Ringgold County.

Mr. DUKES is survived by his wife, Veneta of Mount Ayr; a son, Philip and wife, Caryl DUKES of Marathon; a daughter, Joyce and husband, Larry ENGLAND of Diagonal; seven grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Gladys McCONNELL of Mount Ayr.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at the Mount Ayr United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerry AVISE-ROUSE officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr with the Wilson-Watson Funeral home in charge of arrangements.

A memorial has been established in his name.
