VERL J. DUFFIELD of AFTON DIES

AFTON - Verl J. DUFFIELD, 54, a farmer in the Afton community, died at his home three miles south of Afton about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. He had suffered from a heart conditon for several years, but his death was unexpected.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Methodist church at Afton. Rev. William TOMLINSON will officiate. Burial will be in the Tingley cemetery. His body will be taken to the church from the Stroud funeral home at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and will lie in state before the services. His family will be at the funeral home from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. tonight.

Verl J. DUFFIELD was born near Kellerton, Sept. 28, 1911. He was the son of Sam and Caroline TUNNEY DUFFIELD. He was married, Nov. 22, 1943, to Thelma MARLER. They had lived west of Tingley until moving to the Afton community in 1957.

He is survived by his widow; his mother, Mrs. Caroline DUFFIELD of Tingley; a sister, Mrs. Leland (Vera) ROBBINS of Des Moines; and a niece Pat ROBBINS of Des Moines. His father preceded him in death in 1958.
