OBITUARY - F. BETTY DENTON

Independence, MO F. Betty DENTON, 93, of Independence died September 30, 2008.

Betty was born January 25, 1915 in Kellerton, Iowa. She attended Graceland College and the University of Iowa. She taught school for nine years in Iowa and Missouri. Betty and her late husband, C. Earl DENTON, came to Independence in 1946 after the war and established DENTON Drugs on the square.

Her family, church, and community were always her focus: Brownie Troop, Den Mother, O Teen Leader, Oriole Leader, Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School Principal, P.T.A., Past-President of Young Matrons, General Council of Women, Docent for the Truman Library '92-'95, and Temple Associate Service from 94- 97. Village Heights Congregation of the Community of Christ was her church family.

Betty's husband, Earl, died in May, 1987. Survivors include her son, Drew DENTON and wife Veta; her daughter Jean Ann MALONEY and husband John; grandchildren Jason DENTON; Andra REITSEMA and husband Matt; Micah DENTON; Jared MALONEY; Ben MALONEY and wife Sarah; Kate SZUKELEWICZ and husband Mike; and Deboragh MALONEY.

A private graveside service took place at Mound Grove Cemetery. A public memorial service will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Outreach International or St. Luke's Hospice.
