OBITUARY - LEE DAVENPORT

Lee Davenport, 89, of Diagonal died March 21, 2005, at his home.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24, at the First Baptist Church in Creston. The Rev. Robert SAUSER, the Rev. Lyndon DAVENPORT and the Rev. Dennis NORDINE will officiate the service. Burial will be in Diagonal Cemetery. There will be open visitation after 11 a.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home in Diagonal. Memorials may be directed to Gideon Memorial Bibles.

Mr. DAVENPORT, son of Florence C. (PETERSON) and Hugh L. DAVENPORT, was born December 1, 1915, in Diagonal. He graduated from Shannon City High School in 1932. On December 18, 1935, he married Belvadean SIMPSON in Indianola. On December 8, 1987, he married Frances MILLER in Creston. He was a farmer and backhoe operator. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston, Ringgold County Farm Bureau and Gideons International, and was a former 4-H leader.

Survivors include his wife Frances DAVENPORT of Diagonal; a son, the Rev. Lyndon (wife Dea) DAVENPORT of Sioux City; three daughters, Karolyn McCAIN of Phoenix, Ariz., Melody (husband the Rev. Dennis) NORDINE of Ludington, Mich., and Cebu, Philippines; stepson Wally (wife Judy) MILLER of Creston; two stepdaughters, Linda (husband Larry) WILMETH of Indianola and Trudy WILLIAMS of Morrison, Colo.; two brothers, Hubert (wife Yreva) DAVENPORT of Clearfield and Dean (wife Betty) DAVENPORT of Creston; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren and 16 step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, son Randall DAVENPORT, and sister and brother-in-law Beva and Kenneth MORROW.

OBITUARY - EVERETT "LEE" DAVENPORT

Lee was the firstborn son of Hugh and Florence DAVENPORT on the farm 5 miles west of Shannon City, IA. He was later joined by Hubert, Beva and Dean. Lee graduated from Shannon City High School in 1932. On December 18, 1935, he married Belvadean SIMPSON and began farming in Ringgold County. Since 1940, he lived at the current Davenport farm NW of Diagonal raising grain, hay and polled Hereford cattle; for the past 30 years, Jim and Joy GOINS have shared in the farm operation. Four children were born to Lee and Belvadean - Lyndon, Karolyn, Randall and Melody. Lee now has 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Lee and family have always been very involved in the church and community. Lee also contributed as a substitue mail carrier, backhoe and caterpillar operator, school bus driver, doing area custom farm work and creating wood crafts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Belvadean, son Randall, sister and brother-in-law Beva and Kenneth MORROW.

In December 1987, Lee married Frances V. FEEBACK MILLER. Through this union, he inherited another family - children Wally, Linda and Trudy, 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Everyone will miss his smile, determination to live life to the fullest, and his service, encouragement, and spiritual example.

HONORARY PALLBEARERS: Al GATES, Dean SWANSON, Don JOHNSTON, Don STEPHENS, Weldon SWIGART, Don WRIGHT.

Lee and Frances felt this 1994 Tracy BYRD song summed up thier destiny: Keeper of the Stars -"It was no accident, me finding you. Someone had a hand in it, long before we ever knew. Now I just can't believe you're in my life. heaven's smilin' down on me as I look at you tonight."
