OBITUARY - JAMES LOWELL "JIM" DAUGHTON

James Lowell DAUGHTON was born August 17, 1913, near Grand River in Decatur County, Iowa. His parents were Emmett and Alice (JACKSON) DAUGHTON. He attended school in Grand River and graduated from high school in 1933.

Jim was united in marriage to Vera GIBSON on January 1, 1935 at the Methodist parsonage in Mount Ayr. The couple was the parents of three children: Patricia Jane, Kathryne Ann and William Dean.

Jim worked as a postal clerk in the Grand River post office for two years before moving his family to a farm near Kellerton. He farmed there for 33 years and continued living there after his retirement.

He served as acting postmaster in Kellerton for several years. During his time there he worked hard to get a new post office building for the community and saw it completed in December 1961.

Jim was a former member of the Kellerton Lions Club and served on the FMHA board.

Jim loved the farm life and being outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing as long as his health permitted.

He departed this life on Sunday, December 22, 2002, at the age of 89 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother Dwight, a daughter Patricia BOSWELL, and a granddaughter, Julie Kay BOSWELL.

He is survived by Vera, his wife of 67 years; a daughter, Kay SICKELS and husband Bob of Mount Ayr; a son, Bill and wife Nancy of Kellerton; a brother Dwain of Maryville, Missouri; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 26, 2002, at Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr with Pastor Rick HAWKINS officiating. Organist was Justin AKERS. Casket bearers were Mike SICKELS, Rich SICKELS, Lori FRIEDMAN, Ron BOSWELL, Andy BOSWELL, Dave DAUGHTON, Joe DAUGHTON, Matt DAUGHTON and Mary Jane APPLEGATE.

James was laid to rest in Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.
