OBITUARY - CLEMMETH MITCHELL CRUSSELL

American Flag.jpg Clemmeth Mitchell CRUSSELL was born July 13, 1931 east of Bethesda, Iowa in Douglas Township to Jasper and Amy (McNEAL) CRUSSELL. He went to North Page Country School and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1950. Clem served in the United States Navy for four years on a submarine and destroyer. He worked at Wilsons Meat in Clarinda on production from 1968 until they closed in 1991. Clem farmed all of his life east of Bethesda until the last several years when his health began to fail.

On August 20, 1977 he was united in marriage to Pauline (DOLECHECK) POWELL at Diagonal, Iowa.

One of his primary interests was horses. He rode a horse to school as a boy, traveled with friends to compete in pony pulls, and owned several ponies, riding horses and Missouri mules throughout his life. He was a typical Iowa farmer with crops, hogs and cattle. Unfortunately, he did not have the 400 goats he claimed he had when he met Pauline. Clem’s other interests were his family, church family at Rose Hill Church of rural Hepburn, and dancing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law Al ASHTON, brother-in-law Joe COPELIN, step-son Edwin POWELL, sister-in-law Josephine GRAY and her husband Bill.

Surviving is wife Pauline of Clarinda, Iowa; children Debbie ASHTON of Westminster, Colorado and David CRUSSELL and wife Paula of Clarinda, Iowa; step-children Bob POWELL of St. Louis, Missouri, Jack POWELL of St. Louis, Missouri, John POWELL and wife Michelle of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, and Rick POWELL of Silex, Missouri; sisters Millicent COPELIN of Villisca, Iowa, Lee MOWRY and husband Walter of Shenandoah, Iowa, and Frankie NICHOLAS and husband Woody of Coral Gables, Florida; brother-in-law Duane DOLECHECK and wife Eula of Creston, Iowa; grandchildren Travis and Amber CRUSSELL, both of Clarinda, Iowa; step-grandchildren Justin and Jeremy POWELL; great-grandchildren Gracelynn and Katelynn; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 19, 2009 at Rose Hill Church, Clarinda, Iowa with interment in the Rose Hill Cemetery [Clarinda]. Memorials are Family Choice. Visitation will be at Walker-Merrick Funeral Home in Clarinda, Iowa from 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009.
