OBITUARY - WALTER "IVAN" CROSS

Walter Ivan CROSS was born December 21, 1907 to Walter A. CROSS and Etta HALL CROSS in Des Moines, Iowa.

Ivan grew up on a farm outside of Benton, Iowa. He graduated from Benton high school in 1925.

He entered the service on March 11, 1942. He served as a mechanic in the Medical Detachment 203 General Hospital Unit in Normandy, France during World War II. On November 29, 1945, he was discharged from the Army.

Ivan married Marjorie CANNON BOLLIN on April 4, 1947. They lived in Benton, Mount Ayr and Lenox, where he worked as a mechanic. In 1960, he moved his family to Iowa Falls. He worked for International Harvestor until he retired in 1972.

Ivan's retirement years were spent enjoying his family and grandchildren and their activities. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as fishing, ballooning and sports.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents; a granddaughter, Nancy; a nephew, Tim, and a sister, Hazel CROSS SCHLAPIA.

He is survived by tw daughters, Janie LIITTSCHWAGER of Eldora and Mrs. Keith (Judy) MONSON of Indianola; three sons, Danny CROSS and wife Belva of Iowa Falls; Marlin BOLLIN and wife Lorena of Indianola and Neil BOLLIN and wife Pam of Harrah, Oklahoma. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren; two brothers, Ames CROSS of Mount Ayr, and Gene CROSS of Kansas City, MO.; seven sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held February 8, 1989, from the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home at Mount Ayr, Iowa, conducted by Rev. Doris KINTON. Music was provided by Mike GREENE, Mrs. Robert FISHER and Mrs. Dan CUNNING.

Casketbearers were Mac CROSS, Ron CROSS, Alvin CROSS, Tom WARD, Dennis WARD and Larry SCHLAPIA.

Burial was in the Bedford City Cemetery at Bedford, Iowa. Military graveside rites were conducted by Ringgold Post #172, American Legion.
