The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1930

OBITUARY - HOWARD W. COURTNEY

Howard W. COURTNEY was born September 25, 1848, in Millersberg, Holmes county, Ohio, and departed this life after a short illness at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. M. ENGLAND, in Tingley, Iowa, on October 31, 1930, being 82 years, one month and five days of age. On December 27, 1870, he was united in marriage to Maria Louise AUTHENRIETH, who departed this life four years ago. To this union were born six children - Mrs. O. W. BROWN of Afton, Iowa; Mrs. B. H. REYNOLDS of Tingley, Iowa; Mrs. J. M. ENGLAND of Tingley, Iowa; Mrs. H. D. McKIBBEN of Bangor, Michigan; Charles COURTNEY of Ellston, Iowa; and Wm. J. COURTNEY, deceased. He also leaves to mourn his passing 26 grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one sister and one brother of Columbus, Ohio, and other relatives and friends.

He had been a resident of Ringgold county for 53 years and had made his home in Tingley the last ten years. In his youth he united with the Christian church and had been a faithful attendant ever since. He was a devoted father and a kind neighbor and was loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Tingley Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. W. Harold SMITH, pastor of the Church of Christ at Mount Ayr, and interment in the Tingley cemetery.

CARD OF THANKS.

The children desire to thank the kind neighbors for their assistance, kind words and beautiful flowers sent to us as a token of respect to our dear father.
