OBITUARY - ROBERT CLANTON, 80

American Flag.jpg ESCONDIDO - Robert Warren CLANTON, 80, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Palomar Medical Center.

Born Sept. 20, 1923, in Kellerton, Iowa, he lived in Escondido for 43 years. He retired in 1988 as an aircraft assembler for General Dynamics in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War. He was a member of Hidden Valley Chapel.

Mr. CLANTON was preceded in death by his granddaughters, Cathy BENN, in 1966 and Terri BENN in 2000. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Violett CLANTON of Escondido; daughters and sons-in-law Shirley and Tom BENN of Clovis, Terry and Rodger BETTS and Leslie and John HUERTA, all of Escondido, Cindy and Stewart GART of Livermore, Gayle and Chris COLOMBO of Hemet, and Ruth and Scott DRISKILL of Crestline, Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law Gary and Joanne CLANTON of Menifee and Jim and Trina CLANTON of Temecula; brothers and sister-in-law Albert and Teruko CLANTON of Reno, Nev., and Frank CLANTON of Hawaii; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 26, at Hidden Valley Chapel, 2541 E. Washington Ave., in Escondido. Inurnment at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego is planned.

The family suggests donations to the Alzheimer`s Association, 8514 Commerce Ave., San Diego, CA 92121.

California Funeral Alternatives in Escondido is handling arrangements.
