OBITUARY - ALAN K. CLAMPITT

Alan K. CLAMPITT, 66, of Creston died August 22, 2005, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 26, at Powers Funeral Home, 601 New York Ave., with flag presentation by VFW Theodore J. Martens Post 1797 of Creston. The Rev. Dwayne HENRICHS will officiate the service. Visitation will be after 9:30 a.m. Friday until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Mr. CLAMPITT, son of Olga (THALLS) and George CLAMPITT, was born September 2, 1938, in New Castle, Ind. He graduated from Hagerstown High School in Indiana in 1956 and attended Indiana University two years. He was a traveling salesman, worked for Cappers and Grit Successful Farming more than 20 years. He living in Hagerstown, Ind., briefly in Omaha and residing in Creston for the past 15 years.

On October 28, 1994, he married Phyllis Joanne HANON in rural Glenwood. He was a member of Creston Eagles Lodge Post No. 1398, served in most of the offices, three times as a district officer and was the lodge's current treasurer. He was a former member of the Indiana American Legion, and transferred his membership to the Creston American Legion Post No. 70.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis CLAMPITT of Creston; three stepdaughters, Cheri LEAR (Bob WILLIAMS) of Van Wert and Debra SHELTON and Tina (husband Tom) McMAHAN, both of Oceanside, Calif.; one stepson, Doug LEAR of Hemet, Calif.; two brothers, Rod (wife Shirley) CLAMPITT of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Durlin CLAMPITT of Cambridge City, Ind.; 11 step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother- and father-in-law Mary and Elmer HANON.
