OBITUARY - MARY (DOLBIER) CAVIN

Mrs. Mary CAVIN died at 12 o'clock Saturday, Oct. 19, 1895, at the home of John A. LESAN in Mt. Ayr. She had reached the ripe age of 81 years, 8 months and 1 day. Her maiden name was Mary DOLBEE (sic), and her native state was New York. In July, 1832, she was married to H. M. IMUS. To them twelve children were born, of whom six survive, and are all well known and reside in the county. After the death of her first husband she was married March, 1856, to Wm. CAVIN. Their marriage was the third one performed in Ringgold county. To them was born one son who is still living. Before coming to Iowa in 1854 she had lived in Ohio, Michigan and Illinois. In 1879 Mr. and Mrs. CAVIN moved from their country home to Mt. Ayr where she lived until her death. Mr. CAVIN's death ocurred two years ago. Mrs. CAVIN's last illness was of two week's duration, and brought great suffering to her. She was converted in 1854, and first joined the Free Will Baptist church. In 1860 she united with the M. E. church, and remained a loyal and consistent member until death.

The funeral services were held in the M. E. church on Monday, Oct. 31, 1895, at 2 p.m. Rev. W. C. MARTIN led in the service, and the remains were laid in the Rose Hill cemetery. Mrs. CAVIN was (illegible) her home and motherly (illegible) and this endeared herself to her children, and served her generation.

NOTE: Mary (DOLBIER) IMUS CAVIN was born in Vermont, the daughter of John & Hannah DOLBIER in 1814. She married Horatio M. IMUS in 1832. Horatio M. IMUS was born in Genesse County, New York, in 1812, the son of Lucinda (BURLINGAME) and Charles Lemuel IMUS, Sr. He drowned in the English Creek, Marion County, Iowa, on June 19, 1854 when the family was moving to Ringgold County, Iowa, and was interred in Marion County and a monument was later erected in his memory at Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr, Iowa. William CAVIN, Sr. was born in Kentucky on September 17, 1814, and died October 29, 1893, Mount Ayr, with interment at Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mary (DOLBIER) IMUS and William CAVIN were married on February 2, 1956 by Levi S. TERWILLIGER, Justice of the Peace and Mary's brother-in-law. It was the third marriage performed in Ringgold County, Iowa.
