OBITUARY - HARRIETT W. (PLATNER) CARAWAY

Harriett CARAWAY, 83, of Mount Ayr died November 18, 2004, at Mount Ayr Health Care Center.

Services were 10 a.m. Monday, November 22, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr. The Rev. Thomas DOOLEY officiated the service. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Campbell Cemetery at Bertram. Memorials may be directed to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr. Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 Monroe St., Mount Ayr, had charge of arrangements.

Mrs. CARAWAY, daughter of Marie (STONEKING) and Glenn PLATNER, was born February 3, 1921, in rural Marion. She graduated from high school. On October 17, 1939, she married George J. CARAWAY in Marion. They moved to the Redding area in 1972. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Alter Society, both in Mount Ayr.

Survivors include three sons, George D. (wife Karen) CARAWAY of Worthington, Minn., Clarence (wife Mary) CARAWAY of Lake Benton, Minn., and Kenneth CARAWAY of Mount Ayr; a daughter, Mary Sue (husband Ned) DETERT of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Allen (wife Marilyn) PLATNER of Marion; three sisters, Pauline AUSTIN of Marion, Glenna WHITMARSH of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary LEGET of Maquoketa; a brother-in-law, Louis TICKAL of Cedar Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one step-grandchild and three step-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband August 6, 1988, and a brother, Wayne PLATNER.
