OBITUARY - RODGER CANNON

Rodger Dale CANNON was born March 7, 1942 at Bedford, Iowa, to Bernard Dale "Bennie" and Elowene Irene (DUFF) CANNON. The family moved to Mount Ayr, Iowa and he graduated from Mount Ayr high school in 1960. Rodger served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964. On January 21, 1967, he was united in marriage to Janice Kathryn FOLEY.

Rodger was the state manager for Hiram Walker and then he operated CANNON Select Wine & Spirits in Des Moines. The family moved to Mount Ayr in December 1983 and he operated CANNON Insurance Agency with his wife and he also drove for the Southern Iowa Trolley.

He was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Ringgold Post #172 of the American Legion where he was canteen manager and Mount Ayr Golf & Country Club, all in Mount Ayr, and Johnnie's Hall of Fame and Sons of Saint Patrick in Des Moines. Rodger had been semi-retired for the last year because of his failing health. Rodger died suddenly on January 30, 2004.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law Michael J. FOLEY; brother-in-law Stanley OLSSON; and nephew Timothy FOLEY.

Survivors include his wife Janice of Mount Ayr; son Kevin of Glen Carlson, Illinois; and daughter Monica CLYMER and husband Eric and grandsons Cade Cannon CLYMER and Cole Cannon CLYMER, all of Mount Ayr; brother Rollie of Konawa, Oklahoma; mother-in-law Mary Alice FOLEY of Story City, Iowa; in-laws, Mary and Leroy BIGELOW of Charles City, Iowa, Louise and Argyll AMENSON of Roland, Iowa, Charles FOLEY of Bossier City, Louisiana, Pat OLSSON of Ames, Iowa, Edward FOLEY of Calico Rock, Arkansas, John and Rita FOLEY of Colo, Iowa, Leonard and Patty FOLEY of Huxley, Iowa, Margaret and Steve WESTVOLD of Ames, Iowa, Barbara FOLEY and husband Brad FREGGER of Austin, Texas, Tom and Ginger FOLEY of Calico Rock, Arkansas, Teresa and Lauren OLSON of Ellsworth, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Mount Ayr with Father Bill MILLER officiating. Musicians were Nancy SACKETT and Dr. Collus LAWHEAD. Gift bearers were John and Rita FOLEY. Casket bearers were Kevin CANNON, Lauren OLSON, Steve WESTVOLD, Steve TRULLINGER, Max GLENDENNING and Mac CROSS.

Military rites were given by Ringgold Post #172 American Legion.

Rodger was laid to rest in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Mount Ayr.

Wilson-Watson & Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements.
