The Mount Ayr Record-News, 1931

OBITUARY - Mrs. DEBORAH J. CAMPBELL

Deborah Jane BIRD, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garritt BIRD, was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, May 29, 1844, and died at her home in Mount Ayr on Friday, September 4, 1931, at the age of 87 years, three months and five days.

In the year 1853, at the age of eight, she moved to Ringgold county, where on March 30, 1862, she was united in marriage to Elijah CAMPBELL. To this union were born seven children - Robert of Colorado; Mrs. Lon KENDALL, of Colorado; Mrs. Bessie HIGGINS, deceased; Joseph of Saskatchewan, Canada; William of Hamburg; Elijah and Mrs. Minnie McNERNEY, of Mount Ayr. Her husband preceded her in death July 13, 1911.

Besides the six children, she is survived by one brother, Ed BIRD of Wyoming, forty grandchildren, forty-five great grandchildren, many other relatives and friends.

She united with the Methodist church at Knowlton and in 1895 changed her membership to the Mount Ayr church.

Due to a stroke of paralysis about four years ago, she had since been an invalid. During her long illness she was patient and often spoke of being ready to go home whenever the Lord called her. Her death marks the the passing of the oldest settler of Ringgold county.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. E. S. MENOHER, and interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery [Mount Ayr].

Card of Thanks.

We take this means of expressing our sincere thanks to the neighbors and friends for their kindness during the illness and at the death of our mother and for the many beautiful flowers.--Mr. and Mrs. Bud CAMPBELL, Mrs. M. B. McNERNEY and family.
