OBITUARY - VELMA M. CALDWELL

Velma ended her earthly journey on November 18, 2008 at the age of 96 years at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa surrounded by family members.

Velma was born on November 1, 1912 near Allendale, Missouri. She was the daughter of James and Adeline (SCOTT) SWEENEY.

On February 18, 1932, she married Glen L. CALDWELL. They were privleged to have 65 years together. They were the parents of three daughters, Phyllis, Marily and Joyce. All of their time was spent in Ringgold county except for one year in Oregon. They were blessed to have nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and were always delighted when they came to visit.

Velma was an avid gardener and loved to spend time fishing and she loved teaching her grandchildren how to fish and how to make a worm stay on a hook.

Velma is survived by Phyllis and Ed BRYAN of Clive, Iowa, Marilyn KIMBLE of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joyce and Andy JOHNSTON of San Antonio, Texas; nine grandchildren: Jim BRYAN, Joni BRYAN, Nancy HOWARD, Brent KIMBLE, Mark KIMBLE and Corby KIMBLE, all of Littleton, Colorado; Michael JOHNSTON of Washington, D. C.and Susan SPENCE of San Antonio, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Lloyd GERMAN of Clive, Iowa; and aunt, Catherine KINDY of Allendale, Missouri and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen; a son-in-law, Jim KIMBLE; all of her siblings, sisters Mamie CALHOUN, Ruby MILLS, Hazel SPENCER and Nina GERMAN, and brother, Cleo HILL, Ervin and Russell SWEENEY, and two infant siblings.

A graveside service at the Rosehill Cemetery is pending. A celebration of her life visitation will be held on Saturday, December 6, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Brooks Funeral Chapel, 7975 University Blvd. in Clive.

Memorials may be made to Margery COURT at the Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, 5837 Winwood Drive, Johnston, IA 50131 or to the Alzheimer's Association.
